Salish Scientists Summer Camp

are you looking for a fun and educational summer experience for your child?

Salish Scientists is a week-long, hands-on, outdoor day camp located at our hatchery in Edmonds. Your child will get to explore a wetland, investigate water quality, and learn to be a steward to their environment, all while meeting new friends and growing their independence.

Salish Scientists will empower students with the knowledge to make waves within their communities and will have students diving into the realm of scientific inquiry and using professional tools to complete their own research of freshwater, marsh, and coastal ecosystems. The program integrates a place-based, interdisciplinary approach to learning that builds upon ecological concepts and related experiences. Students will gain a deeper understanding of the environmental challenges our region faces. Our vision is to work with the youth in the area to create viable interworking communities of empowerment and stewardship for the surrounding world.

Quotes from Previous Campers

“I’m passionate about salmon and the Puget Sound. I learned a lot and feel like I found the perfect place.”

“I wish tomorrow wasn’t a weekend.”

“It was really fun and I learned a lot. I got to know my fellow campers better and I learned more than I did in all of third grade.”

"I want to go to camp every year until I'm too old, then I want to be a camp counselor!"

Parent feedback

“As a parent, I feel like my camper has had her world expanded and had her thought processes challenged and encouraged about how the different aspects of the natural world interact with and affect other parts.”

“This camp is a hidden gem! My son loved it and we plan to sign up for more sessions.”

“My son has been asking me what kind of plants I have around the house. He's never shown interest in them before so I credit that to the plant identification work he did at the camp.”

“The kids were happy to go be outside and meet new friends, and excited to learn about how important salmon, and the natural world in general, is important to everyone. The camp was organized with good communication. All the counselors were positive and helpful and happy to see the kids each day.”

“Camp was all outdoors and seemed to be a perfect mix of learning and active fun. My daughter came home everyday bouncing with excitement and couldn’t wait to tell us everything she did and learned.”
