Dear Friends,

Spring is here along with the season to GiveBIG to support Sound Salmon Solutions’ salmon recovery efforts. We are seeking your support to help save our salmon by contributing to our mission of connecting the community to their watersheds and the tangible actions they can take for the future of salmon.

Although we and our partners continue to make progress in salmon recovery, we still see most populations of Pacific salmon listed under some level of threat. Salmon are intrinsically connected to our ecosystem, economy, and culture here in Washington making them a keystone species. They are key for maintaining ecological balance supporting countless predators including our endangered southern resident orcas. They are an integral aspect of our economy as we all rely on sustainable fisheries to see abundant salmon returns for future generations. They are vital to the culture of our Coast Salish Peoples who have relied on salmon for food, trade, and ceremony and lived in balance with them since time immemorial. Pacific salmon populations need us to come together as stewards to the environment to ensure their future and that of our southern resident orcas.

By supporting Sound Salmon Solutions this spring, your generosity would go towards the vital work we do connecting our community to their watershed and the tangible actions we can all take to aid in salmon recovery. With your support, our education programs continue to grow. For the 23-24 school year, we have partnered with 21 schools for our Salmon in Schools (SiS) program to forge meaningful connections between students and their environment. SiS provides youth with an unparalleled opportunity to learn about the importance of Pacific salmon and empowers youth to take action to reduce their impact on water pollution. Our Youth Exploring Stream Science (YESS) program in partnership with Snohomish County Juvenile Court continues to provide transformative experiences for youth who are part of their diversion program. By connecting youth in this program with the natural world and the skills and knowledge they need to become change-makers within their communities, we are inspiring the next generation of salmon stewards. Our habitat restoration team continues to actively restore salmon spawning grounds through invasive vegetation removal and planting native trees and shrubs. In 2023 these efforts included planting 35,224 native plants and restoring 80 acres of riparian habitat.

With your support, we can continue to expand our education programs and restore even more spawning grounds without the restrictions imposed by project-based grants. Your contributions will help us to say yes to all the field trip requests we receive and to purchase vital equipment for our restoration projects.

Please join Sound Salmon Solutions now in our GiveBIG campaign and help us do even more to save our salmon. Your tax-deductible gift, made on May 7 or 8, will go directly to support salmon recovery. Anything you can contribute is greatly appreciated!

With warm regards,

Mary Brueggeman, Executive Director
