Restoration
Our habitat restoration projects range from assisting a landowner with planting a few dozen native trees and shrubs along their creek bank to something as complex and ambitious as excavating new channels connecting tributary streams to their rivers and planting thousands of native trees and shrubs over the floodplain. We partner with landowners, Tribes, government agencies, community groups, businesses and other nonprofits in habitat restoration projects of all kinds throughout our watersheds so that salmon have a home they can return to generation after generation.
Our habitat restoration projects are focused along salmon-bearing creeks, streams, and rivers, from Fall City up to Darrington. Our professional crew starts with surveys of the area, followed by thorough removal of invasive and noxious weeds which are detrimental to salmon habitat, and replacing them with native trees and shrubs to return riparian (or riverside) areas to a natural state.
Our work sets the course for self-sustaining habitat to persist long after we are gone. The trees and shrubs we plant provide the shade that salmon depend on. Their deep roots stabilize soil and prevent erosion. When their life cycle ends they will provide woody debris as in-stream habitat. Reconnect an abandoned side channel to the river and it will provide rearing habitat for juveniles for generations. Our goal is to help salmon populations flourish for centuries to come.
