Sound Salmon Solutions invites you to join us in restoring habitat along the Snoqualmie River. Together we will be grubbing (removing) invasive vegetation. This work will aid in the restoration of vital salmon spawning habitat by giving space for native plants, that maintain the cold, clean, and clear waters salmon require, space to flourish.

This event will be taking place near Carnation. The exact address will be shared with registered participants as we get closer to the event.

Volunteers ages 5+ with parent/guardian are encouraged join us.

Join Sound Salmon Solutions to learn about salmon, their life cycle, and why we love them! We will read salmon stories, move our bodies to salmon yoga, and make some salmon art!

This program is geared towards youth 3-7 years of age and their caregivers. No advanced registration is required.

We're back already! Time to move the coho to the pond! But first the pond needs to be cleaned and prepped for the 80,000 new coho fry. Please join me in cleaning the pond and then (my favorite day of the year) ponding the coho. This event goes all day, but there is a significant break between cleaning the pond and moving the coho. Please see the sign up link for more details.

Cleaning the pond can be slippery,  so please wear waders if you have them or non-slip shoes. I will provide the supplies to clean the pond but do not have extra boots, waders or other PPE. Cleaning the pond will likely go from 9 am - 11 am (ish), then there will be a lunch break until 2 pm when the fish can be ponded (the pond takes about 2 hours to fill to a level where the fish can be moved). We at Sound Salmon Solutions are strong believers that the outdoors are for everyone. Join us in celebrating this MLK Day by giving back to public spaces. Together we will be working to ensure that the Chinook Bend Natural Area is accessible to all members of our community and our native wildlife that lives there. By removing invasive vegetation, we will be restoring this land to a healthier and native ecosystem. This work will directly benefit the community as a whole by providing accessible spaces for wildlife viewing and aiding in salmon recovery along the Snoqualmie River.

It’s time to move our 80,000 coho salmon from the trays to the troughs! Please join us for a short volunteer event on MLK to move the fish to their new home inside the hatchery.

Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty/wet and waterproof and non-slick shoes preferably. Please park at the top of the driveway, along Pine Street, and walk down the driveway to keep the gravel lot open. If you need parking accommodations, please email Kaelie.

It's that time, the coho rearing season is here! We will be picking up 80,000 coho salmon eggs on December 5th and would love to welcome you to come see them and get them settled in their new home. There isn't a lot of space in the hatchery, so we'll have to take turns seeing the eggs and helping sort them into trays.

Looking for a way to celebrate Green Friday rather than Black Friday? To celebrate the giving season, we will be planting trees to show reciprocity with salmon. Pacific salmon are vital to our ecosystem, economy, and culture in Washington. They provide nutrients to us and countless other species including the magnificent trees that build our temperate rainforests. Join our SSS Staff for a day of planting along the North fork Stillaguamish River to give back to the salmon that are key to a healthy Pacific Northwest! Interested in volunteering more with the Edmonds Stewards? Join Sound Salmon Solutions and the Edmonds Stewards for training in habitat restoration. Participants will learn the role the Edmonds Stewards play in restoring City of Edmonds Parks, native and invasive plant ID, and techniques for this restoration work. After attending the training, participants will be qualified to lead restoration work at sites and guide community volunteers who have not participated in the training. Please note space is limited so please register in advance. This training is offered twice a year in spring and fall.

We will meet at the Willow Creek Salmon & Watershed Education Center. Free street parking is available along Pine Street.

Join Sound Salmon Solutions staff at Tolt McDonald Suspension Bridge to look for salmon returning to spawn! Staff will have a table with interactive posters and be available to answer any salmon biology and/or conservation questions.

Come down to the Demo Garden to get FREE native plants. There will be a variety of cuttings as well as potted trees and shrubs available. All plants will come with descriptions of the full-grown plants and instructions on how to care for them.

The Willow Creek Habitat Native Plant Demonstration Garden is at the southeast corner of Pine Street and Edmonds Way, near the entrance to Point Edwards Condominiums.

Help native insects and birds by using native plants in your garden. Being adapted to the wet winters and dry summers of Washington, native plants also require little maintenance and do not need watering once they are established.

No advanced registration is required. Plants will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis.

Snohomish Conservation District will also be selling rain barrels to City of Edmonds residents. To learn more about the rain barrel sales and to preorder yours, please use the link below.

Fall is definitely here, ready or not--which means it's time to tidy up the Edmonds Native Plant Demonstration Garden for the winter months. We will have a work party this coming Saturday, October 19, from 10:30-12:30, rain or shine. This is a great chance to take a break, check out the fall colors, get into the garden and dig in--literally: we'll have some new plants to put into the ground and fill out the stumpery, as well as weeding, trimming, and cleaning up after a full summer's growth and lots of Garden visitors. Come for a half hour or for the full time--we'll be grateful for any help you can give. There are plenty of tools on site, but you're welcome to bring your own, especially garden gloves and pruning shears. 

You don't need to sign up in advance, just come on over. We'll have a sign-in sheet for you when you arrive.
