CANCELED: Restoring the Chinook Bend Natural Area for Salmon

  • Chinook Bend Natural Area 29307 Northeast Carnation Farm Road Carnation, WA, 98014 United States (map)

Join Sound Salmon Solutions in assisting with the restoration of the Chinook Bend Natural Area. Pacific salmon are vital to our ecosystem, economy, and culture in Washington. They provide nutrients to us and countless other species including the magnificent trees that build our temperate rainforests. This event will focus on planting fascines as part of a study in partnership with King County to study how to shade out reed canary grass while also living with beavers. Fascines are tight bundles of thin live stakes planted lengthwise into the ground. They are typically used to reduce erosion caused by wave action or surface runoff. The hope is that the density at which the fascines grow will outcompete the rate at which beavers can eat them. Volunteers ages 10+ with parent/guardian are encouraged join us.
