River Stewards

River Stewards

This program is a collaboration between the Stilly-Snohomish Fisheries Enhancement Task Force and several partners* designed to provide salmon-focused environmental educational opportunities to park visitors.

We will be offering a series of water and salmon related activities this summer. River Stewards will reach out to water recreation enthusiasts, including boaters, anglers, hikers, and those spending a day at the beach, to promote simple behavior changes that will make a real impact towards improving water quality and restoring the health of Puget Sound.  Specific stewardship behaviors that River Stewards will promote are picking up pet waste, using commercial car washes rather than car washing at home, and natural yard care, all of which will contribute to a healthier Puget Sound.

Besides the Salmon Education Booth, River Stewards will host interpretive programs including afternoon nature walks and evening “Salmon Stories” presentations.  Come to learn more about salmon in our watershed, their habitat needs, and stewardship.  See our schedule below for more details.

The River Stewards program is a collaboration between the Stilly-Snohomish Fisheries Enhancement Task Force and several partners* to provide salmon-focused environmental educational opportunities to park visitors located throughout the Stillaguamish and Snohomish River basins and Island County watersheds.

River Stewards offers several water and salmon related activities.  In the summer of 2010 the program reached 1,800 community members and water recreation enthusiasts, including boaters, anglers, hikers, and those just spending a day at the beach, to promote simple behavior changes that will make a real impact towards improving water quality and restoring the health of Puget Sound.  Specific stewardship behaviors that River Stewards promoted were picking up pet waste, using commercial car washes rather than car washing at home, and natural yard care, all of which will contribute to a healthier Puget Sound!

Besides the Salmon Education Booth, River Stewards offers interpretive programs including afternoon nature walks and evening “Salmon Stories” camp fire presentations.  In the summer of 2010, the program reached 366 community members.  Attendees learn more about Pacific salmon, their habitat needs, and how responsible stewardship practices can help restore Puget Sound salmon populations.
