Sound Salmon Solutions (formerly Stilly-Snohomish Fisheries Enhancement Task Force) is a 501 ( c ) 3 nonprofit corporation, registered as a charitable organization with the Washington Secretary of State. Our membership is represented by commercial, tribal and recreational fishing interest groups, conservation organizations, the agricultural community, and local and area businesses.
Sound Salmon Solutions’ mission is to ensure the future of salmon in the Stillaguamish, Snohomish and Island County watersheds.
We strive to achieve this mission by working to:
- support and enhance natural salmon populations through habitat restoration,
- empower communities to be stewards of their watersheds by providing education and volunteer opportunities,
- partner with other groups and agencies to maximize salmon recovery, and
- advocate for salmon recovery in our region.
Founded in 1990 as SSFETF, Sound Salmon Solutions has been dedicated to restoring salmon and salmonid populations and habitat in the Stillaguamish, Snohomish and Island County watersheds ever since. This totals an area of over 2,400 square miles. Our work also includes marine waterways in Port Susan, Port Gardner Bay, Possession sound, and the Saratoga Passage, south of Elger Bay.
Our partnerships help us achieve our mission through community collaboration. Often, we use our collaborative efforts with federal, state and local agencies, businesses, and community members to strategize improvements upon the state of fisheries in the Pacific Northwest.
Sound Salmon Solutions is proud to offer a variety of hands-on, inquiry-based education programs throughout the year to students from kindergarten through high school ages. Our programs encourage students to be active, inquisitive stewards of their local watersheds, and provide them with the knowledge they need to encourage others in turn. For more information on our current education programs, and archived synopses of past programs, visit our Education page.
Volunteer participation from groups, individuals, and special interest groups alike is the backbone of our efforts! We couldn’t do it without the time, dedication and hard work of our volunteers. We need volunteers on a regular basis for any number of upcoming events and projects. To learn more about how you can become part of the solution for salmon, visit our Volunteer page.
Sound Salmon Solutions is supported in part by generous gifts from our members and donors, as well as our partner organizations. A list of recent supporters can be found on our Partners page.
